This time of the year has been a time when The Church has focused not on material gifts; but on God’s eternal gift of His Only Son. There many reasons why Jesus came to the earth He created but for today, here are three in particular.
One reason Jesus came was to do the will of His Father; may we follow after our Great King and Savior. “For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.” John 6:38
Secondly, we see that Jesus also came to save sinners, to give them a new eternal life. He came into a world of darkness to bring Eternal Light into the hearts of men. (1 Timothy 1:15) “The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.” He illuminates His purpose stating, “I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness.”(John 12:46) Jesus brought to the world through His incarnation the destruction of evil. What a great gift given to a world in desperate need of an end to sin, suffering and death.
A third reason Jesus came is given to us in Hebrews 2:14-16-17. Jesus came to become like us! “Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham. Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.”
All of the other so-called religious systems tell us to exert great effort to gain the favor of the gods, or to strive harder for positive merit. Their leaders said they came to point to truth. Like the man called “The Buddha” when asked who he was; “an angel, or a god” he said “no I am one who seeks the truth.” Contrast that statement with Jesus’ declaration in John 14:6
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Follow The One who is Truth, not the one who is still lost and seeking for it.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ announces that God came to us; not only did He come to us, but He added to His perfect divinity humanity. So that in every way He would understand the people He came to save. The Gospel tells us that The One True God came to us, and that He bled for us; rather than expecting us to bleed for Him.This Advent season, as we ponder and examine the truths and reasons Jesus came may we have Hope, Joy, and Peace as we rest in the promise of His word, and as we look forward to the Second Advent may our souls warm and our minds stay sharp with ardent devotion to our King & Savior, Jesus Christ.
